Reaching Refugees

We now have two teams that routinely go down to Catania (from Belpasso) to serve the poor, the in-need, the at-risk, the homeless, the foreigner and the refugee among us.

Those who are down-and-out on the streets, without a home, without God and without hope, are being served both naturally and spiritually. Wasn’t Jesus (and so aren’t we) anointed by the Holy Spirit to minister to these very people? (Isaiah 61 & Luke 4)

The hungry? and Thirsty?
The Stranger? and Naked?
The Sick? and Imprisoned?

The motivation of mission

1. Yes, we’re moved by compassion. Hurting with those who hurt, teaches us to help.
2. Yes, we’ve got a mandatewe’re sent ones – on a common mission (com-mission).
3. And, saving the best for last, the somewhat, or perhaps often, overlooked motive:

REMARKABLY, it’s about Jesus and His reign on earth; it’s a personal service to Him.

It’s about the nations hearing the good news about – and coming to a saving knowledge of – the King and His Kingdom. A heavenly kingdom that was prepared for us – as well as for them – to inherit “from the foundation of the world.” A kingdom all planned out, well in advance, just like our co-mission (yours, mine and His). We were created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Me and you!

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ [Matthew 25]

What an awesome privilege to serve as co-laborers in Christ! Thank you for your partnership in the gospel, together we are on mission in Sicily, reaching refugees.
